Wilderness Awareness Contract Progams

Teacher and student"The students got a great deal from what Wilderness Awareness School offered and were totally engaged..."
-Daniel Stokes, teacher

Who?
We offer Custom Youth Programs for independent and public schools, homeschoolers, families, scout troups, church youth groups, and more. We love to work with students of any age, especially on a continuing basis.

What? Like our regular Youth Programs, Custom Youth Programs draw heavily from our comprehensive Youth Programs curriculum, which includes training and development in six different core subjects known as the "Six Shields of Nature Awareness." A typical program involves learning in each of the following six areas:

  • Naturalist Skills and Hazards
  • Mammal Studies and Tracking
  • Plant Studies and Aidless Navigation
  • Ecology and Community
  • Survival, Earth Skills, and Tree Studies
  • Bird Language and Awareness Training

It is our goal to train young people in each of these areas, and our programs usually include teachings from all of the shields; however, we can provide a program that focuses on just one area if requested.

When? The length of our programs are somewhat flexible to meet the needs of your group. Most of our custom programs are at least a day long, however, and can be as long as a full week. Groups that meet once per week or month over an extended period of time benefit greatly from repeated exposure to our way of teaching.

Where? We often send our instructional staff to meet your participants at a park within an easy driving distance from your school or organization. There are some limited opportunities for overnight programs on or near the Wilderness Awareness School property or at other facilities.

How Much? The cost for one-time program is likely to cost between $40 to $50 per student for a full day (6 hour program). Cost varies depending on number of students and activities.

For longer multiple-day or overnight programs, the program fee will vary according to the program requirements, and will include any additional expenses such as food, site fees, and travel costs.
