Adult Intensive Courses

Adult Intensive Programs"The teachings I received through the Wilderness Awareness School went far beyond my idea of what was even possible. Naturalist and survival skills were only the beginning. The cultural teachings and community experiences took the lessons to an entirely different level..."
-Ryan Whisnant, Residential Program Graduate

What are Adult Intensive Courses?

Our Adult Intensive Courses are designed to give you the most comprehensive nature and awareness training Wilderness Awareness School has to offer.

Our current Adult Intensive Courses:

Studying the natural world at our Adult Intensive ProgramsThe Wilderness Awareness Residential Program, our core intensive course, is nine months of thorough grounding in every aspect of our curriculum, spent as part of a supportive community of fellow learners (three days per week plus field trips, September - June).

The Earth Mentor Program is our six-week training course during the summer months designed for people who want to become skilled naturalist mentors. The course offers primary training in Wilderness Awareness School's unique educational method (runs late-June to early-August).

The Wildlife Tracking Intensive, a weekend-based course that specializes in the art and science of tracking, is held at field locations throughout the Northwest. It offers specialized paths of study for both beginning and advanced wildlife tracking students (held ten weekends per year, September - June).

The Instructor Training Apprenticeship is a nine month course that offers hands-on experience at our on-going youth and adult courses, and trains leaders who have the necessary skills and knowledge to be effective instructors and staff members of any outdoor education organization (held two days per week, September - June).

The Apprenticeship is a good second year option for Residential Program and graduates and other advanced students who wish to continue their studies and gain more instructor training experience
